A friend suggested I try to create an entry into the 2008 Dwell Design Your Dwelling Competition. I have no formal architectural background, but thought I’d give it a try!

My design was a little unusual, but I thought it would better stand out from other entries! I have drawn both Disney’s Monsanto House of the Future and the Sculptured House of Genessee in the past, so both of those buildings influenced my design. (Both drawings will be appearing here soon in revamped editions!)

The hypothetical location for the Dwell contest was a beach in San Francisco, with a view of Golden Gate Bridge. So I looked around and decided on three viewing decks, one to look at the bridge, another to view Alacatraz Island, and the third up high to look back at the city.

You can review some of the other entries, many by much more worthy serious architects: here & here.

Probably the most deserving serious entry is this structure by Colorado Chris. Chris is not only a masterful architect but he also lives in Colorado’s Arapaho Hills, an incredible offshoot of the more well known Arapahoe Acres, and a neighborhood I plan on posting pictures and drawings of very soon (maybe after the leaves drop from the trees!)

I was attempting to complete the interiors, but it is not necessary for the contest, and I would not have had the time. Time is always my biggest problem, I plan on using up a lot of my vacation time here toward the end of the year so I can concentrate on my drawings, photography, and start adding content to my wife’s websites.

I would also like to leave a comment for my new Russian friend who keeps leaving comments: Спасибо моему новому российскому другу, который продолжает оставлять сообщения! Большое спасибо за ваши комментарии!

And finally, one last view of the interior staircase. . .
