cà d’zan
Cà d’Zan, or House of John, built in Sarasota, Florida in 1926 by John Ringling, of Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus.
This Venetian-style mansion was designed by architect Dwight James Baum, with some assistance in construction by Ralph Twitchell, prior to Twitchell founding Sarasota modernism.
John Ringling was responsible for the dredging and reshaping
of the beautiful Sarasota keys. Sadly, Ringling and his wife Mable,
only lived at the completed mansion for a few short years.
These 20s-era ceiling panels depict dancing by
indigenous cultures from all over the world.
The grounds surrounding Cà d’Zan not only showcase the gorgeous Sarasota fauna . . .
but it is also home to the Sarasota Museum of Art . . .
and the Ringling Brothers Museum of the American Circus, where artifacts such as these odd items are stored:
Also, on the site, but not pictured here is the historic
Asolo Theater, an 18th-century building imported
from Italy and restored on the grounds of Cà d’Zan!
