Battalion of Saints San Diego punk
Beloved Invaders Boulder surf
Big Sandy & the Flyrite Trio with Wally of the Gravediggers
Bill Haley’s Original Comets Bill Haley had passed away, but they had a guy from the UK who could do his part dead on. The audience was stomping along so hard I thought the floor was going to break! Most of the guys were in their 70s, but they had 10 times the energy of the Sex Pistols reunion I saw a couple of weeks later
Black Flag Ron Reyes era, Dez Cadena-era, a 1982? singers-reunion show with Reyes, Dez, Rollins & Merrill Ward pretending to be Keith Morris, and then one time later on circa “Slip It In“, subbing for missing Meat Puppets
Black Lips in Denver, 2007
Blasters circa ‘80-’81
Blood on the Saddle I think this band had Dave Drive drumming? Maybe not.
Blue Cheer their revival tour of 1985, on a bill with Redd Kross. My buddy recognized Dickie Peterson at the hotel accross the street, so we said hi. After the show, they were unwinding in a tiny closet size room at the club, Dickie’s girlfriend stopped us and said “When we are done playing we need time to wind down, so we can’t be bothered”. Dickie told her to get out of the way and let us in!
Bo Diddley at a cool benefit gig in Beaver Creek, CO. Even bluffed Diddley into giving me the Dutchess’ phone number, which I put into a coat pocket, then I promptly lost that coat in the chaos of that weekend. Man, what a letdown. Long live the Dutchess! (click name for pic)
Cambridge Apostles with Alice Bag & others I cannot remember
Channel 3 once in ‘84 incognito so punks wouldn’t wreck their new glam image, I think this was opening for Redd Kross
Cheap Trick Dream Police tour
Chemical People in Boulder
Chiefs 2 times with regular singer, once with replacement singer near end of band, one time at the Starwood with Fear, first Fear played but Chiefs couldn’t play as a bouncer was stabbed to death, which made this the last show at the Starwood, my favorite club, snif snif
China White Huntington Beach punk
Choosey Mothers Denver punk
Christian Death couple of times in the Rikk Agnew-era, playing with 45 Grave and Social Distortion, I think
Circle Jerks I remember one scary overcrowded show at the Starwood with TSOL, the painted “white faces” gang running around (including “X-head” at this time), cops everywhere etc. etc., saw them one time in Denver opening for the Weirdos
Clash with Lee Dorsey who was great
Controllers 1983 reunion
Cramps on my birthday in 1981 with 45 Grave and the Skeletons

Dick Dale couple of times in Denver, one great show at an early ’80s LA surf fest doing mostly Elvis style vocals, running amuck in black leather playing trumpet, drums, etc.

Dictators in Denver not too long ago
Didjits 1989 or 1990 in LA with Tex and the Horseheads
Discharge fast music, but these guys barely moved onstage
Dream Syndicate circa first EP, probably on a bill with Salvation Army or were they Three O’Clock by then?
Dwarves a couple of times in Denver. Their first Denver show in 1989 was the shortest ever: 0:00. They set up to play at the Underground and were just about to start playing for the five people there to see them, but Blag refused to play. Said “There is no one here, we were promised coke and hookers, we were lied to”. This was when Tooling For a Warm Tea Bag came out, the other time I saw them they were dressed like a nude version of Public Enemy baseball caps and clocks around their neck, circa Thank Heaven For Little Girls
Eddie and the Subtitles I think their guitarist ended up in Denver
Endless Banana great Stooges style band led by Johnny Nation, how come no one is reissuing this? Usually on bills with the Joneses, Mau-Maus & Rik L Rik
Fear early shows with lots of spit in the air, once at the Starwood on a bill with the Chiefs, right after Fear played, a bouncer was stabbed to death, last show for the Starwood!
Flesheaters A Minute to Prey A Second To Die lineup with guys from the Blasters and X at the Roxy. A giant Richard Kiel-Jaws type of guy got into a huge fight with punks, picking them up and throwing them through the back door!
Flower Leopards opening for Redd Kross out in the boonies somewhere
Frantix Denver punk band, reunion show in Denver 2008!

Germs My favorite band, but I only saw them once, and it was Darby’s last show, which was at the Starwood. 3 or 4 weeks later he committed suicide! On the way there, my brother crashed his car on Mullholland Drive in the first rain of the year 1980! We had to walk a long distance down Santa Monica Blvd, (yikes), so we missed the Screws, but caught part of Middle Class
GG Allin at a strip mall in Littleton, CO! Kids yelled “Kill yourself!” so he chased them outside, hitting them with folding chairs yelling “Maybe you won’t think it’s so funny anymore”. I hid from projectile parts of the set unashamedly behind two fat girls
Go-Gos many many times when they were still a punk band with Margot. Hey, Belinda was from my high school Newbury Park High . . . but I sure didn’t know her, I was much younger, my brother knew her brother Butch. Lorna Doom and Donna Rhea of the Germs were also from Newbury Park High. I did get to meet various Go-Gos a few times during those early shows
Government Issue I didn’t really care for DC bands with the exception of G.I.
Gravedigger 5 later the Morlocks, Leighton was a crazy singer
Gravediggers 80s LA rockabilly, saw them a couple of times, even one time with the Raunch Hands
Gun Club with Patricia Morrison
Gwar First Denver show. They were really low budget, their costumes were mostly silver duct tape. Warlock Pinchers opened.
Happy World Denver hardcore, at a New Years Party
Hard-Ons Aussie punk band, saw them in Denver at The Underground
Headcoats Billy Childish, the one time he played Denver
Helios Creed in Denver, late ’80s
Hose early east coast Flipper style punk band with future Def Jam prez Rick Rubin on bass, decked out in leather pants, shirt & hat! I think they also had a tiny 14 year old blond girl on drums. The played the Music Machine. Things I have read say that other records are the first on Def Jam, but I am fairly certain that the Hose 45 was Def Jam 001!
Human Head Transplant with Bob Furbrusch

Jimmy and The Mustangs opening for the Gears at the Palamino, sorry I don’t really care for Stray Cats-style rockabilly
Jon and the Niteriders LA surf
Joneses many many times, at the time they were voted best band in LA in an LA Weekly poll, then they went on tour and dropped off the face of the earth, until a few years later in ‘87 when they finally put out an LP. Some people with certain conditions should not attempt to tour, right Charlie Parker?

Kidd Pharoah Denver rockabilly
King Diamond in Denver
Kommunity FK early LA death rock act on the bill with Nig-Hiest at the Cathey de Grande. Mugger from Nig-Hiest said that he wanted to show that they could be as sophisticated as Kommunity FK, Nig Hiest then went into Velvet Underground’s If She Ever Comes. . .
Lazy Cowgirls a few times early on when they moved to LA. One time in Boulder where they were mistakenly booked at a redneck country bar that used to be on the north side of town, sawdust on the floor! It was just like the scene in Blues Brothers, people hissing and booing and yelling “Yooouu suuuuck” in a thick idiot drawl.
Lee Dorsey opening for the Clash

Minor Threat 1st LA show, with Zero Boys, M.D.C., Detonators
Minutemen a few times, once as opening band on bill: Minutemen, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Adolescents, Fear, maybe TSOL? right before Paranoid Time EP was released. Scary violent show, crazy bearded military vets in camos showed up to start fights. They got the crap kicked out of them for doing sieg hiels! But these weren’t the only fights going on, lots of ambulances, cops, etc. Went to a Minutemen KPFK radio show too
Miracle Workers before and after they moved to LA
Misfits 3 times, hey, I was in the Misfits Fiend Club
Moon Martin & The Ravens opener for Cheap Trick
Morlocks my favorite band from the eighties “60s revival”. Saw them many times in LA including last show which was at the Cavern Club. That show was right after the abortion clinic attached to the Cavern had been bombed and kids were skulking around the scary bombed out multi-story interior. One time I drove up to San Francisco to see Morlocks play huge SF show at the Swedish Music Hall accompanied by the original Fillmore lightshow. Must have been 2,000 people there

Patriots early LA skinhead band, if I remember correctly
Paul Burlison famous as the guitarist of Johnny Burnette’s Rock and Roll Trio, playing lead on The Train Kept-A-Rollin’. When I saw him, the late Johnny and Dorsey Burnette were replaced by sons Rocky and Billy Burnette, and Ralph Gean even sang a few songs
Paul ‘Wine’ Jones Fat Possum blues

Ramones many times in LA, once here in Denver at Fiddler’s Green, a horrible place to see anyone

Then steadily through the Dez-era and up to the period of Teen Babes from Monsanto. At the time, they were my favorite band. After they got another guitarist they moved more toward pop and I lost interest
Replacements who were very drunk and some barely clothed. This was at the Cathey de Grande about 1983 where they taunted the mohawk punks with slow country songs. Then when they heckling reached a peak, they would play a fast punk song, get everybody revved up, only to return to slow country the very next song.

Sin 34 early LA hardcore. They were also behind We Got Power magazine
Skeletons rockabilly band opening for the Cramps and 45 Grave
Social Distortion many many times through many different line ups. Early LA shows where they had lots of energy, mid-period shows where they seemed to have some serious problems, then even a couple of later shows in Denver where they had it all together again. Once went to the opening of “Another State of Mind” where they projected the video film with an early-make expensive video projector. Tony of the Adolescents got up toward the end of the film and accidently knocked over the projector, ending the movie early. Mike Ness was sitting behind me so I asked him how it ended. He said he didn’t know.

Youth Brigade early two singer line up, they weren’t very good
X some times in LA, sometimes in Denver
Zero Boys great first LA show on bill with Minor Threat, M.D.C., Detonators. In my opinion, they blew the other bands away
